what up, what up, what up... hope everyone's enjoyed the new video we posted. me and jeremy had a lot of fun throwing that one together. we're trying to figure out our next one, as we speak. let us know if you've got any ideas.

had a pretty easy day so far. we've been working pretty hard these last couple days, trying to get ready for the shows next week, it's been great to have a day to just kick it. i've been frequenting this new coffee shop (i guess it's new) called crema, off broadway. nothing too fancy, just a good cup of coffee, plenty of outlets to plug in the macbook, and a great soundtrack of music from the likes of our good friends roman candle and keegan dewitt.

after i did the whole internet and coffee thing for a bit, i grabbed lunch with my buddy harrison (www.harrisonhudson.com) at san antonio taco company (SATCO, to the nashvillians). harrison's a great musician here in town, as well as an incredible photographer and graphic artist. he threw together our charlotte poster the other day in just the time it takes to watch "shut up & sing." (it's on demand all month long!) we talked about a lot of ideas we both had, including the need to interact more with our fans through the internet.

something i've been working on more and more is being consistent, whether it's writing songs, responding to emails, reading books, whatever...too often i feel like i go through these hot and cold streaks. so this is one of those things i want to be more consistent about, so hopefully, as long as anyone's interested, we can keep this up to date. at the very least, our parents will know what we're up to. (hey mom!)

but there are a lot of exciting things we have in store for everyone, including next week's shows. playing north carolina always gives us the exciting challenge of going out and trying to top the last show we played there, and we think this year will be no exception. charlotte should be a great night, we never know what to expect there. raleigh, get ready to party, especially afterwards because we're gonna dance all night. but for now, it's time to get back to work...

Cold Start (and Extended Stay)

Happy new year. hope everyone's 2008 has gotten off to a good start. so far it's been a cold year for pico, with our gas heat deciding to cut off just in time for one of the coldest winters in Nashville ever. But don't worry, in true global warming fashion, it will be 70 again in a few short days, and in true Utility company fashion, our gas will be back on a few days too late...

I want to thank everyone on behalf of the band, for coming out to our thanksgiving show in Raleigh. I think it's safe to say it was our favorite, though every year gets better and better. We have a lot of hope for 2008 (album this year, maybe?), and seeing everyone out, having a good time, confirmed those feelings. Sorry for the tardiness of the gratitude, but you know how these things are, it's thanksgiving, then next thing you know Christmas is coming, and then another Batman trailer comes out, and everything gets really hectic. but there you go, Thanks!

Lastly, i've been meaning to post a link to this amazing short documentary. It was made by our BFF and official photog Pamela Littky. It's called Extended Stay, and it's absolutely hilarious. Definitely for fans of the Office and Arrested Development. And it's only 12 minutes long! that's like 3 youtube videos! so check it out on her site, under the Director's Reel. we just wrapped up a rehearsal for our thanksgiving show, and i'm happy to say things are going really well. we're trying really hard to balance the old with the (kinda) new songs, and i think we've done a pretty good job. we're pulling out songs we haven't played in a LONG time. songs we almost forgot about. it's actually quite refreshing. in fact, post some requests and maybe we'll throw those in the set as well!

with that said, we're also going to play some of the newer stuff. songs like Caution, Open doors, Other Lives, etc. (see myspace) Over the past few months we've settled into a set of songs that we're really into that we'd love to share with you. we've been trying hard to find ways to get the music out to you, but at this time a proper album release hasn't developed (2008, we promise). But if you do some digging, there are definitely ways to find the new material. There's a few videos on YouTube of songs like Malibu and 15 days (check out the video player on the right), so if you check those out and get to know them a bit, we could have a lot of fun this year. we're also tossing around the idea of printing out lyrics sheets for everyone. that could be cool right?

Don't worry, we haven't forgotten where we've come from, we're just really excited about where we're going, and we hope you are too. Regardless, come out to the Thanksgiving show and i can guarantee you'll have a good time, or i'll buy you a turkey dinner.

hey yous guys,

This weekend the pico palace (thats what people call our house in nashville-probably because we make them call it that) was blessed with the presence of our good friend Kevin Byrnes. if you think back to early years of pico you might remember us having a song called "Kevin Byrnes". we named that song after our best friend but then changed it later to "In The Sky" because we realized that we couldn't possibly have a song named after our high school chum and be taken seriously. but it was the thought that counted.

Anyway, we still love him. this weekend we came across a website that changed our lives and will surely change yours. it is an internet website archive (don't worry i'll link to it at the bottom). what does this mean? well... the IAWM is a site that allows you to visit archived versions of web sites. alls you do is type in a url of your favorite website, select a date range, and then begin surfing on an archived version of the web. the results can be pretty hilarious.

for example we viewed old versions of our website formally www.pvitrees.com circa dec 09 2002. we used to have a section called kevs korner where our good friend kevin would write to his fans. some would say that we were blogging before the idea of a blog was invented. no big deal. but if you are at all interested to find out who we went to the prom with or stories about us hanging with the olsen twins (before the big 18th birthday. score!) check out this site and let us know what you think. and hey if you come up with any fun archived websites let us know.

so i think we're really gonna give this whole blogging thing a shot. i've never been good with things like keeping a journal (though i've tried on numerous occasions) but hopefully this will be a bit more consistent. this is where we're going to put our interesting (maybe) stories or anecdotes about the goings on with Pico vs Island Trees. here's the first one:

yesterday, we drove from nashville to atlanta to see our friends Maroon 5 play. it's nice to do a road trip every now and then, and not have to worry about when sound check is, or unloading (it may be argued that i usually don't worry about unloading, but you'd be wrong John Henry, dead wrong). the arena was probably one of the nicer venues i've been to. Way to go Georgia! We met up with the guys backstage right about the time the Hives started playing. The lead singer of the Hives is an amazing frontman and had the attention of every one in the audience. The band was pretty entertaining overall, with the guitarist and drummer doing tricks with their respective instruments, and let's not forget the black and white dummy amps to send home the theme of their new record The Black and White Album. On the side of the stage there was a family of like 13 young blonde kids, which Brian pointed out probably belonged to the members of the Hives, since they are, in fact, a Swedish band. He was right.

Maroon 5 went on afterwards, and we were thoroughly impressed. They're definitely one of the hardest working bands out there. After the show, we caught with the guys on the bus. Possibly inspired by the shredfest James and Adam put on earlier in the night, we spent the rest of the night watching this:

it started getting late, so we said our goodbye's and headed back to nashville, with even more inspiration and motivation to get this thing going...

well thats it for now. we've been doing a lot of writing as of late, and hope to have some demos and videos available soon. one down.
